Back on the 24th September '99 I said that that had to be the biggest single update ever made to the site, and here I am saying just 6 days later that today's update has to equal that "monumental" update! First and foremost you'll have noticed the site's changed its name from thebits.co.uk to linuxdot.org. Reason? "Linux" because we are a Linux site. "dot" because it's cute. And ".org", because that's what we are, an "organisation" that freely helps the Linux newbie. Secondly I've redesigned the layout of the Newbie's Linux Manual and added two new sections: Command Tutorial #3: mkdir & rmdir; and Command Tutorial #4: cp, mv & rm.

Today I've added some much-needed navigation links to every issue of The Linux Bits. I've also added a reformatted, Issue 14 (a.k.a. "The first issue to go HTML").

Today has to be the biggest single update the site has ever received! The entire site has had a much needed face-lift. I've still some "remodelling" work left to do (especially on the Newbie's Linux Manual), but that shouldn't take too long. I've also finished editing all 6 of the A Windows Vendetta? articles, for errors, clarity, grammar, and formatting. Plus I've added two new pages to the site: Beyond The Last 5 Days; and a contents page for the "Just For Fun" section.

Updated the Diary of an Open Source Newbie section today, with my second diary entry for 2. Let The Note Taking Commence!.

The Bits is going PC. No not that PC, the other PC. I'm in the process of removing the occasional use of unnecessary bad language dotted about the site, and replacing M$, Windoze and Mickey$oft with the PC equivalent. I'm also editing every page, checking for bad grammar, spelling mistakes and just plain nonsense that needs correcting.

Started a new section today for all you "wannabe" Linux programmers called Diary of an Open Source Newbie! Already I've included two sections. The first is titled, 1. Why? With What? And How?, and the second has the title, 2. Let The Note Taking Commence!.

Today I added a search feature to the homepage, allowing you to search both this site and the web. Great if say, you have a problem with a Winmodem and would like to see what we've covered on the subject. Also added Issue 12 of The Linux Bits, which funnily enough, mentions Winmodems - go figure! ;)

I've reformatted Issue 10 of The Linux Bits, and added it to the archive. (The past few days have been spent putting together Issue 17 which is why there's not much going on at the moment, in the way of new articles.) As you can see by the link though, I've added the new issue of The Linux Bits, which is a tome unto itself!

Today I've reformatted Issue 9 of The Linux Bits, and revamped the contents page.

I've reformatted issues 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 of The Linux Bits and put them back on the site today.

I've added Issue 16 of The Linux Bits to the site, and included the return of The Linux Bits Archive.

5 new sections added to the Newbie's Linux Manual today! And here they are: The Shell; The X Window System; The Kernel; Files; Access Rights Intro.

Once again there's a new section to the Newbie's Linux Manual. This one's called: Tar and Feathers - Without the Feathers.

Added yet another new section to the Newbie's Linux Manual. This one has the title: Setting-up fetchmail and Pine.

Part 9 of Steve Coe's Diary of a Linux Newbie has been added today.
