Added Issue 22 of The Linux Bits to the archive. There's been no updates to the site for 6 days now because of a crash that caused chaos with my computer. It'll take too long to explain here so I'll reveal all in Issue 23. |
24th October '99: | ||||
This is something I've been meaning to do for ages now. The Beyond The Last 5 Days section has now been organised in a much more tidier manner than the previous, "just slap everything onto the one big page and hope no one complains". |
23rd October '99: | ||||
Today sees the start of a security section in the Newbie's Linux Manual, with the addition of the section: Forgot Your root Password? |
22nd October '99: | ||||
Finished the Emacs Tutorial #1: Basic Editing section for the Newbie's Linux Manual today. It's looking pretty damn good if I don't mind saying so myself. :) I've also joined up with The Linux Webring and done some site-wide minor changes (even though anything site-wide is never minor!). |
21st October '99: | ||||
Did a bit more work on the Emacs Tutorial #1: Basic Editing section for the Newbie's Linux Manual and also updated the Vi Survival Guide section. |
20th October '99: | ||||
Added a new section to the Newbie's Linux Manual going by the name of: Emacs Tutorial #1: Basic Editing. It's not finished yet but - aside from The Daily Linux News - I want to make a thing of updating the site daily. |
19th October '99: | ||||
Added Issue 21 of The Linux Bits, to the archive. One cool thing (for me anyway) is that at over 6,500 words it's our biggest issue ever. |
18th October '99: | ||||
Added all those pesky Linswap banners to almost every page of the site. As far as I know, Linswap is the only Linux-sites-only banner exchange program out there, and I couldn't resist joining this worthy scheme to help promote Linux. |
17th October '99: | ||||
Today the final part - Part 10 - of Steve Coe's Diary of a Linux Newbie has been added to the site. I've also added 4 news books to The Latest & Best Linux Books section -- déjà vu from yesterday you could say. ;) |
16th October '99: | ||||
At least no one can say I'm not keen. Yesterday saw the start of a new section and today another new section is born! The Daily Linux News as its name clearly states, will feature the best Linux news, updated daily! Aside from that, I've also added 4 news books to The Latest & Best Linux Books section, and added a completely rewritten Vi Survival Guide to the Newbie's Linux Manual. |
15th October '99: | ||||
It's my birthday today, I'm now a positively ancient quarter of a century old. ;) Today sees the addition of a new section to the site, going by the name of The Latest & Best Linux Books, and sees the addition of 7 new pages to the site (now at 82 pages), hopefully adding an important new resource to the site. I'll let you be the judge. |
12th October '99: | ||||
At last! With today's inclusion of Issue 13 of The Linux Bits added to the archive, that's all 20 issues now on the site! You have no idea how much work was involved in putting all 20 issues into HTML format. Not too mention tedious, boring, and dull. Finish issue 1, start issue 2. Finish issue 2, start issue 3... and so on... until I was beginning to believe I was being punished for some terrible crime I had committed in a previous life. |
11th October '99: | ||||
At long last I've formatted Issue 11 of The Linux Bits and added it to the archive. Only issue 13 left to go and I can finally add a feature to download every issue in one big Zip or tarball, or download them in smaller chunks (suited to frequent downloads). A feature I've been wanting for ages now! |
10th October '99: | ||||
I've added Issue 20 of The Linux Bits to the archive. It's got a nice ring to it - issue 20. Makes it sounds like a real established publication. And if I don't mind saying so, it's turning into a damn good publication. ;) |
9th October '99: | ||||
No updates for a few days because I've been so busy playing about with various graphic packages. Something I haven't done for far too long now. One of my creations now dons the homepage. (The sidebar which now replaces the former plain blue cell.) |
5th October '99: | ||||
I've added a funky green border to every issue of The Linux Bits. It's likely that they won't stay green though. I thought it'd be nice to associate a particular colour with each issue, depending on the main story. IBM Blue, AMD Green, Red Hat... erm.. Red... that sort of thing. Sad I know, but that's me - Mr Saddo of Sadsville, 1 Geek Lane. :) |
4th October '99: | ||||
Added Issue 19 of The Linux Bits to the archive. |
3rd October '99: | ||||
Increased the size of our site's logo and mascot at the top of almost every page, and changed Bill's mascot to a Stars n' Stripes Tux (A Windows Vendetta?), Steve's mascot to a Canadian Tux (Diary of a Linux Newbie), and the Just For Fun mascot to a "Purple with Green Polkadots Tux"!?! A million and one thanks to the super-talented Urs Streidl for providing us these great graphics. |
